On 8 May 2018, SHAREit acquired the Fastfilmz app and appointed Karam Malhotra, the founder of Fastfilmz as the CEO of SHAREit India.^[13]

Issues with software[edit]

In 2017, Indian Defence Ministry highlighted Security issues with the app and asked armed forces to uninstall SHAREit. ^[18]

SHAREit has collaborated with Google to start security metadata integration program.^[19] After the metadata integration, all apps shared through SHAREit will be screened by Google Play to ensure all apps transferred from one device to another is original and malware free.

Ban in India[edit]

On June 29, 2020, the Government of India banned SHAREit along with 58 other apps citing data and privacy issues and added that it was a threat to the sovereignty and security of the country even though no evidence was provided.^[20] The border tensions in 2020 between India and China might have also played a role in the ban.^[21][22]
